Ullem Center For Sustainability

The Ullem Center For Sustainability is a multi-purpose building used for teaching, food preparation and farm outreach programs. The building is located on the 12 Acre Ullem Campus Farm, just west of the DePauw University Campus and Athletic Center.

The custom designed post and beam building features an outdoor classroom, kitchen, seating and dining spaces, and was designed with numerous sustainable features.  There are three active solar UV collectors that can produce up to 300,000 BTUs per day. These panels convert UV rays into hydronic thermal energy that is stored and distributed through a radiant floor heating system.  The building is passively cooled throughout the warmer months via natural ventilation, with support from a large overhead fan during extreme temperatures.
