IU Health Frankfort Hospital
Opened in the fall of 2020, the new IU Health Frankfort Replacement Hospital is an entire health campus that transforms healthcare services in Clinton County. From surgery and imaging to prenatal care and cardiology, the hospital offers patients and their families the care they need in their own community.
When IU Health took over the outdated, oversized county owned hospital in 2017, they hired the team of arcDESIGN and Huddy Healthcare to evaluate the existing aged facility and masterplan for the future of healthcare in Frankfort. The masterplanning effort studied many options of renovating and adding onto the existing hospital, but found that building a new, smaller facility was more cost-effective and better suited for providing top-quality care.
The 50,000 sf new facility is designed using a lean healthcare design process where all staff, physicians and the community were able to participate. At the completion of the “Cardboard City” visioning process, arcDESIGN developed a 3D computer model that documented all the decisions made and applied finishes and design details. As a follow-up, arcDesign walked the team through a detailed virtual tour of the facility where they were able to review the proposed space an offer final input.
The new facility includes:
12 Inpatient beds • Emergency Care • Lab Services • Pharmacy and Imaging Services • Surgical suites • Physical and occupational therapy • Cardiovascular and pulmonary services • Helipad • Staff Patio Lounge • Public and Patient Therapy Gardens • Greenspace • Walking Trails around the campus (to be completed Spring 2021)
