Originally constructed in 1907, Normal Hall is a historic gem located in the heart of the Indiana State University campus. Originally a library, this facility has been underutilized for years and is currently being used predominantly for storage. arcDESIGN was commissioned to help the University not only to restore the historic finishes but to turn the facility into a Student Success Center that provides learning and mentoring environments. The stained glass dome, historic southern entry steps, structural book stack system and faux paintings are all a part of the original fabric of the facility that was studied for restoration and renovation. Additionally, Indiana State University and arcDESIGN worked to create a Fine Arts Quadrangle that would strengthen the connection between all of the fine arts buildings located adjacent to Normal Hall. The Fine Arts Quadrangle will be designed to create break-out spaces in support of the Fine Arts Building and the Recital Hall/ Art Museum in the Performing Arts Building.
