Indiana University, Briscoe Hall – Residence Hall Renovation
Indiana University 280,000 s.f. 2011 - 2013 $32 millionBriscoe Hall is a residence hall located on the Indiana University Bloomington Campus. It was important for the University to update this building to meet the housing needs of students.
Scope: This renovation includes complete upgrades for two eleven-story student housing towers and much of the two-story connecting Center Building. Conversion of standard single and double student rooms into two, three and four person, air-conditioned suites with individual restrooms was undertaken for this renovation. The limestone exterior envelope of the building will be cleaned/tuck-pointed, all windows/exterior doors replaced and a new exterior canopy provided at the main entry. Innovations include new vertical “trunks” of service to alleviate horizontal conflicts and maintain a positive and uncluttered ceiling height. Operable windows are stopped in short runs for safety and security. The project is currently being constructed with a LEED Silver designation from the USGBC.
Featured Facts: The existing dorm rooms from this 1960’s building were converted to suites that reflect the desires of today’s college student – making Briscoe Quad the most desirable place to live on campus.
