Wishard 38th Street Community Health Center – Renovation and Addition of Community Health Center
Wishard 70,000 s.f. 2011-2013 $20 millionWishard Health Services envisioned this primary care clinic to be a “Community Center which also offers Healthcare,” providing an innovative way to think about primary care of the future.
Scope: This comprehensive facility provides a multitude of basic healthcare services. A Pharmacy, Mental Health Clinic, Dental Unit, Rehab Therapy Suite, X-Ray, Mammography Screening, and Primary Care for Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults and Seniors are all included within the building. It also offers the Community various amenities with its Cafe, Multipurpose Event Rooms, and exterior walking trails and greenspace. The central circulation spine, or “Community Corridor,” acts as the activity hub and provides clear wayfinding throughout the building for its multilingual and disadvantaged patient base. It is a re-use of and addition to a 35,000 s.f. abandoned Circuit City Building. The project is pursuing LEED Silver Certification. With the goals to be accessible to all patients, provide a medical home model of healthcare, create staff efficiency, provide facility flexibility, and sustainable design, the facility truly is a primary care clinic of the future.
Featured Facts: The design aesthetic of bright colors, natural materials, extensive use of textures and courtyard gardens was inspired by the native architecture and aesthetic sensibilities of the diverse cultures represented within the surrounding community.
