arcDESIGN and Applied Engineering worked with Ball State University to expand the Dr. Joe and Alice Rinard Orchid Greenhouse on the Muncie campus. The project expansion, doubled the size of the greenhouse’s approximately 800-square-foot Conservatory and added a 1,500-square-foot education center to serve as a dedicated hands-on community multi-purpose space —the new Nature Lab and Education Classroom. The Rinard Greenhouse can now accommodate more visitors, host more community events and offer expanded education to the community.

Originally built in 2015, the Rinard Orchid Greenhouse features the largest collegiate orchid species collection in the U.S. with the purpose of: conserving rare and endangered species of orchids, disseminating them for conservation and using the collection for research and education.
