Since 1977, the Center for Leadership Development (CLD) has been a vital force in Central Indiana, empowering minority youth. By August 2021, soaring demand for CLD’s services led to a 20,000-square-foot expansion, doubling its original 2009 facility in Indianapolis.
This expansion, part of a $34 million RISE campaign and fueled by a $5 million Lilly Endowment grant, was celebrated in December 2023. The new space is crucial for CLD’s growing programs, which equip minority youth with life skills, academic guidance, and leadership training, preparing them for college and successful careers.
The ambitious project includes 6-8 new classrooms, a 400-seat auditorium, an expanded College Prep Institute, and new offices. The interior design purposefully reflects CLD’s mission, shifting from earthy tones to vibrant Kente cloth hues and incorporating Adinkra symbols and geometric elements throughout. This branding aims to create a welcoming and aspirational environment where youth feel seen and supported.
